Rue goes Yellow

One of my favorite online magazines is Rue . It was one of the first that I read on a regular basis and it’s one that is always inspiring. This home was featured in the latest spring issue, and is by far my favorite story in the issue. I love homes that are brave enough to use a bold color (in this case yellow) throughout their house to make a big visual impact. When done with the right color, using a consistent color throughout makes everything feel like it belongs together and helps tie rooms together. Good job Rue!

Lived in

I spend entirely too much time searching the internet for inspiring home interiors. Interiors have nothing to do with my day job, no my freelance jobs, but I’m always making time to keep looking (maybe it’s because I don’t spend my days living and breathing interiors as a “interior designer”  or “stylist” would. Whatever the reason, I love it…and I especially love to see a beautifully photographed home that isn’t stage/styled. It’s nice to see the untouched signs of everyday life ( unperfect stacks of books, scribbles on a wall,  or even a grumpy face).

This finland family home is the perfect combination of beautiful photography (by Riikka Kantinkoski) and a lived in concept (concepted by Mirja Karjula)

Simple Living via Milk Magazine

One of my favorite sources on interior inspiration is Milk Magazine. This home was recently featured and that you can live with kids and without the mass of primary colors that come along with them. Melanie Ireland, the designer for Simple Kids visited this home several times before making it her own. She fell in love with the homes well preserved old details such as the old mirrors, wooden floors, high ceilings and large windows.

CIOCCOLATO…say what??

I really have no words for this branding/interior design project except for WOW and Yum. Oh…and why can’t this be here in St. Louis??

Lucy's Glasshouse

I’m pretty sure my mother would just die to have this…my dad too…and me, really! I’m dreaming of warmer days with lots of greenery surrounding me. I can’t wait for the smell of fresh greens, citrus, flower buds, and even the smell of summer rain. Let’s just skip this winter stuff, and even the spring stuff, and hope right to the HOT & SUNNY summers that make me one happy camper.

Lucy and Stephen Marr own this beauty and I envy it with all my heart. Look at how it looks pieced together with salvaged window panes. So great.

A Room For The Wee Ones

I’ve been eyeing this interior space for some time now. I’ve decided that if I have have children I’m going to go bold and paint black floors. Decided….done & done.
This space is lived in by two little ones, ages 2 & 7. It’s minimal with all the right details; false suspended ceilings and sliding doors. All furniture pieces serve a purpose and the space was designed in a way that the space can either be open to the rest of the house or closed off for quite times.

Ahh. I just love it…and I’m not a big fan of pink or red 😉

A Home with History

A good starting point for your springtime home repair is a look at the outside of your home. You will be inspecting for any obvious damage to the structure and its components. A few spring home maintenance tips that can save you trouble down the road are:

Windows & Doors Are Some Of The Most Important Spring Home Maintenance Tips

  • Remember to check your outdoor faucets for freeze damage. This can be done both visually and also by turning on the water. Hold your finger over the flowing faucet. If the water is easy to stop you might have freeze damage to the pipes.
  • Now is the time for an inspection of your windows and doors. Look for loose caulking at the sills and also around the window and door frame where it meets the house. Check out the best short load concrete delivery deals.
  • If you have rotten wood, you should have someone take a look at this. You might need window repair or window replacement.
  • Check for cracks and loose or missing calk.
  • Check all windows and doors from the inside of your home for air coming into your house. This can signify the need for new energy saving replacement windows or doors.
  • Also look for any depressions or standing water in your yard that was not previously there.

Gutters And Downspouts

  • Check for obvious damage.
  • Do you notice any of your Gutters or downspouts out of place?
  • Are there obvious leaks?
  • Are the downspouts draining free and clear away from your home’s foundation?
  • Now is also a good time to put a ladder up to check the gutters for debris.
  • You may want to explore the option to install gutter guards on your gutters, to further safeguard against debris buildup and clogging,
  • Evaluate the overall functionality and efficiency of your gutter system.
  • For efficient spring home maintenance, consider hiring professionals for expert seamless gutter installs to ensure your property stays protected from seasonal rains and water damage.

Roof Repair And Roof Inspection

  • While up on the roof visually check the roof for any damage here or needs for roof repair.
  • Look for out of place or missing shingles.
  • Also, take a walk at ground level to visually inspect the roof.
  • While walking around the outside look at the flashing around the chimney and vents for any loose or missing calk.
  • Also, observe the vents for any evidence of nesting birds or other animals.
  • If you feel uncomfortable going on the roof to check any of this, including the roofing materials you need in Utah, or just your skills and abilities to assess or repair these items, you can always hire a home repair professional to do the job for you.

Air Conditioning And Heating Check

  • Now is the time to check your air conditioner. Springtime will soon give way to hot summer days. While a thorough check is best done by a home repair professional, there are a few simple things you can do.
  • Make sure the outside unit is free and clear of debris. This will help assure good airflow and maximum efficiency in the operation of your unit.
  • Change filters on the inside that you can access. Follow manufacturers recommendations on the size needed and also gaining access to them.
  • Turn the unit on and listen and observe both inside and outside. Listen for any unusual noises and observe for any unusual vibrations on both the inside and outside of the unit.
  • Place the thermostat to an operating temperature and see if the unit cools your house to temperature in a timely fashion. In Their Home // KITKA

I’ve been reading through the archives of one of my new favorite blogs called KITKA (a design blog / lifestyle blog). The blog is run by two very talented designers, Juli & John. The couple live in a “renovation project” apartment situated above their shop in The Junction neighborhood of Toronto. I’m actually pretty jealous of the whole work/live setup they’ve got going on. Their blog is filled with sneak peeks of the home renovation, scenes from around Toronto, snippets for weekend trips to their cottage, and captured moments from vacations. Stop by and make sure you have an hour or so to look around. Their blog is like one gigantic rabbit hole of greatness!

In Their Home // Katie's Pencil Box – Part. 2

Here we are again. Sharing some more photos from Katie Stratton’s (Katie’s Pencil Box) home. Part 1 was shown yesterday and because I’m feeling indecisive, I had to show all photos. Look at the details people! The paintings, wall paper, little knick knacks….so great. I hope all of you are as inspired from her space as I am. I see a black wall in my future and a lot of de-cluttering about to happen.

Don’t forget to stop by Katie’s blog and send some sweet baby wishes her way. Isn’t she the cutest! Can you imagine what that babe’s room is going to look like? Ahhh!
