Veda News: Lazy weekends

Last Friday I debated and debated whether of not I wanted to blog. Ultimately, my mind was already on the weekend and I didn’t have a creative thread in me. I choose to take the weekend to continue working on a few personal projects. I feel like my house is in a state of half started projects, most of which are related to wedding stuff or my guest room makeover (coming to the blog soon!)

I’m not complaining though. I feel like lots of exciting things are happening right now, so the sense of unfinished is kind of fun….so many possibilities in the works.

Anyway…I’m rambling ( I do that a lot). Hope your weeks starts off on the right foot and here are a few images of randomness that is happening in my home these days.

Veda News: I'm boycotting fall…again

Today’s post is about how I’m boycotting Fall/cold weather again. I do this every year and I feel like the boycotting gets more intense each year. I’m pretty sure this is the Universe’s way of telling me I need to fly south (for the whole year).

I took these photos a little while ago, but they make me think of one of my favorite parts of summer, wildflowers!  I’m a real sucker for hand-picked flowers and try to keep as many flowers as I can, all summer long. Now that I’m seeing the leaves change and fall, these photos take me back to my happy place. haha

Am I the only one still hanging onto the idea of having the windows open, picnics in the park, BBQ, summer music festivals, barefeet and lazy days out on a boat? Ahhhh….come back!

* Don’t forget that I’m selling a few props from my prop closet —-> here.

Ok. Here it is. I’m going to be sharing a few items (every couple weeks) that are for sale to anyone interested. Veda News: Make a Light Fixture / SOLD

Hello! I wanted to stop by and offer a little something for you guys! Earlier in the week I talked about my lighting obsession and how I like to make lights from salvaged industrial “things”. Well, the images above show some wire cages (powder coated in black) that I bought with intention to make hanging pendant lights. I was going to buy some cording and drape a few Edison bulbs down into each cage. Cool right?

Well…I then moved into a new home where pendant lights were no longer needed and so these awesome cages just keep sitting in the corner. Bummer!. I’m selling the set of pendants and wanted to give my readers first dibs if anyone is interested. I paid $60 orginally (for the pair) and would be happy to get $30. Feel free to inquiry through email (casspyle@gmail.com).

*UPDATE – This item is now sold!

Veda News: 6 Months In!

Oh boy, guys!!! I’m over here almost in tears as I process that I’ve been diving deep into the full-time freelance thing for 6 months now, officially. Whaaa??? Whenever the thought crosses my mind, I get a little mad at myself that I didn’t have the confidence to make the leap sooner. Now, I couldn’t be happier. Yes, I’m still constantly learning and soaking everything in, but I am now learning with a clearer mind. It’s been a while since I’ve felt this free to peruse the things that truly make me tick.

Over the last 6 months I’ve gone from being scared to take on work ( in fear that I would be over-working myself again ) —> to taking every freelance job opportunity that came my way out of pure excitement —> to being insanely picky about the projects that come across my table and into my portfolio. I’m very thankful that I’ve been able to focus on what I want and go with my gut. Being clear about what you want really is the solution to “figuring it all out”.

I’m beyond eager to keep growing and sharing the process with you guys. I know I have a long way to go, but it’s not about the destination, right? These days my focus is on building cohesive brand stories for creative businesses and jumping right into the world of photo/prop styling. I’m also eager to build better connections with my readers and just grow my online network in general. You guys are amazing and I love hearing about your stories as well, so keep sharing!.

Thanks for following along on my journey and sharing your thoughts/encouragements! If you are a newer reader, you can read about my journey into freelance journey post category (link below).

Veda News: Off To Palm Springs (DesignerVACA)

Today I’m packing my bags and flying (on a super early flight) to Palm Springs to spend the weekend with 50 other designers, bloggers & creative females at the lovely Ace Hotel. Whoa!!! Last year’s event (only 20 girls) was such a success that the entire event has been re-structed to accommodate more people. The idea is exciting.

The event is structured like this –> meet great people over shared meals, connect over shared experiences, lay around by the pool, attend really laid back Q&A sessions, explore palm springs, hang out on the Ace Hotel grounds and much more.

I’m not going to lie. I remember coming back from the event last year feeling 100% overwhelmed by the amount of information I had gathered. I was comparing my successes to all the other girls and the pressure was on. At that point in my career I hadn’t left the agency life yet and was feeling frustrated and feeling stuck. This year (now fully engaged with freelance life) I have a new sense of adventure and determination to gather information.

Like I mentioned in my post a few weeks ago called Business Travel, I really don’t like the whole traveling process. Fortunately I’ll have a really awesome pool and palm trees waiting for me and not to mention miss Jane Riley waiting for me in the Phoenix airport 🙂

Veda News: Being a Design Mentor

Not too long ago, I was approached by a young emerging designer looking for a little guidance on how to run a start up freelance gig. As soon as I received the email, I was taken back to my senior year of design school where my whole world was a confusing blur and all I wanted/needed was a solid mentor. I needed someone that would tell me the truth about the “real world” without any sugar coating involved. I knew instantly that I needed to do everything I could to help this designer out and share some of the things I’ve learned along the way.

Meet Laci! She’s a graphic design intern at Walt Disney Imagineering in Los Angeles. She’s been moving through the design world for a few years now, but tells me she just hasn’t had the right “first steps” and wants to direct her efforts more towards the blogging world. Her main hiccup along the way has been finding a professional PROCESS that she feels fits the way she strives to work. She understands that everyone has a process best suited for them, but is desperately seeking some guidance when it comes to creating contracts, improving client relations, what to expect along the way, and a general insider glance at a freelancer’s reality. That’s where I’m excited to step in.

Veda News: Taking Care of Myself – Part 1 (Workout)

It was about a month ago that I just started to feel really ICK with myself. Coming from previously living a life of constant exercise (I was a gymnast for 19 years), I had found myself in a sedentary cycle. I had grown to place my work and relationships with others (and planning a wedding) on a higher pedestal than where my health stood. My physical health & mental clarity was suffering and that little voice inside me was asking the universe for help…in a really subtle way. I let my body into a bad state, then that was the time I push myself into keto diet and do some workouts.

After years of feeling like exercise was the last thing I wanted to do, one morning last month I woke up and said “I want to be challenged physically…I think I’ll try Insanity for the next 60 days”. If you know me, that’s just crazy talk. That day I ordered Insanity and patiently waited for the package to arrive. Days later I found out that the eBay seller I bought the DVD set from had magically disappeared from the internet and my package wasn’t going to come. I was certain the universe was telling me I didn’t need to work out ;). I even got the best sarms advice from sarmsadviser’s website because I thought It could help me with my fitness goals. I really think it could mean something.

Magically, about a week later (after returning from a long weekend at the lake), the DVD box set was sitting on my front door ready for me to get my shit together. I found it humorous, so I played along.

Today marks my two weeks into the 60-day program and I couldn’t feel better. Yes, my calves feel like they are going to fall off and I’m pretty certain my lungs are about to explode, but I feel progress. If anything…there is progress in my mental state. I now welcome the pain of working out and understand what people are talking about when they say they get a “rush” from working out. I hope that these next 6 weeks embed a desire to continue to feel like this, and that these feelings act as my proof that working out really CAN change things around. Taking vitamins like Rootine can also be incredibly beneficial for people who truly value their health.

We’ll see how it goes. I’ll update you along the way… Have any of you tried this Insane workout program?

Veda News: Headed to the Lake

Today (as you’re reading this), I’m driving the 7.5 hours home to my parents house to enjoy a long weekend at the lake. It’s been a year since I’ve spent some quality time at the lake front and I couldn’t be more excited. You could say that I grew up a “lake rat” and probably spent 50% percent of my childhood in a bathing suit. Being on boats and on the water bring me back to my comfort zone and I can’t wait! Not to mention most of my immediate family will be there to enjoy the water with me. And, of course, should anything unforeseen occur, I know I can reach out to Leppard Law.

Seems like this idea of taking time for yourself and factoring in “down time” into your schedule is a hot topic these days. It seems to come in waves as if everyone is in go go go mode and then just can’t do it anymore. One of my favorite bloggers, Mara speaks honestly (this post) about how she’s been able to shift her routine to include more “ME” times like acupuncture, meditation, and even cleaning her house. I also see post about cleaning house in a better way through appointing better firm.  Another one of my daily blog reads is called Paper & Stitch and this week she had a guest blogger write about “The Power of Taking a Break” and the importance of scheduling in and planning for “Screen Free” days.

It’s time to jump on the band wagon and take a screen free day this weekend.
