Snapshots from Spain

One of my absolute favorite was to become inspired is to sit down and browse through a gazillion Flickr photostreams. I came across the photostream by Ixone and really enjoyed the captured moments. Most, if not all were captured on film. I was unable to dig up more information about the artist but you can view many more photos here.

Do you guys have any favorite Flickr photostreams?

Recent Work: Moodboard For a Fine Artist Photographer

Hi guys. A little update on what I’ve been up to lately. I’ve been working with a talented fine art photographer, helping her transform her online space, one little piece at a time until we get all the details figured out. I wanted to share with you a mood board I’ve put together to help guide me along the design process. I know there were a few directions I wanted to explore, but wanted each direction to pull some fine art cues without feeling too much like the stereotypical photographer’s identity. We’ll see what happens, but I’m excited to get more into the design portion over the next week.

Lesson Learned: It's OK to take a blog break

This is one lesson that I am still learning, everyday. A lesson that after almost 5 full years of blogging (1.5 here at The Veda House and several others while in college) I am just now starting to be ok with the idea of letting loose. I used to be a person that would check my blog stats daily and freak out when the numbers weren’t where I was expecting them to be. I was mentally and physically ALWAYS connected to the blogging interface. These days, I hardly EVER check my stats, and let me tell you something…it’s a game changer. You blog because you love it, and it’s as simple as that.

So now that I don’t freak out when numbers yo-yo around it’s time to be okay with disconnected from the digital space all together. As time goes on, it has become easier to just step away, and I look forward to it getting even easier. The fear of losing all my readers overnight is no longer there, thank golly, but it sure is hard to get mentally back in the game after being away for any extended amount of time. This means that I do fear that I’ll lose my groove, my daily rhythm and I fear that when I return from mini breaks I will return with zero motivation. Sometimes breaks are good to clear the mind, but I’ve had situations where I clear my mind so much that I’m empty of ideas. Ever happen to you?

Do you guys take blog breaks? Do you feel like you can or is there a constant fear that taking a break means you are a sucky blogger? I’d love to hear your thoughts because it’s definitely something I’m still learning.

* I’m considering this a “Freelance Journey” post because blogging is such a big asset of my blogging life. Not sure why I felt the need to justify that….oh well!

Abandon Normal Devices Ad Campaign

I came across this ad campaign and felt I needed to post about it since it made me do a double take. All great makes you look twice right? The Abandon Normal Devices Film Festival campaign was designed/concepted by Marcus McCabe. The project included brand identity (my favorite) along with posters, festival guides, website, and teasers. I thought it was a very clever project with lots of personality.

See more of Marcus’ Portfolio HERE.

The Dominican Republic: Part 3

This trip to the Dominican Republic will always be held near and dear to my heart. Half way through the trip, my boyfriend/best friend of 10 years got down on one knee in my favorite place on earth, the sandy beach. I’ll never forget how shock I was and I’m continuing to soak in all the little details, one week later.

You could say it’s been a really long time coming and we couldn’t be any more excited!

branding backwards / 03

The branding for Fruita Blanch by Atipus is hands down one of my favorite identities, ever. I’m not sure if it’s their handmade type or the modern + vintage combo that won me over more, but the fact of the matter is that it’s done extremely well, as a whole. While the typography is clean cut and simple, the designers had a fun time matching everything with beautiful photographs of fruit. I dig it. PLUS, you can even download the font they used, for free! Simply click here to get it. What a score, huh??

As usual, make sure you stop over at my blog today to see Cassie’s Branding Backwards post this week! I’ve been having such a fun time working on these posts for all of you. Can’t wait to keep it going!
