Lesson Learned: Being Uncomfortable

Hey team! Hope all is well in your worlds πŸ™‚ I’m stopping by today to talk about “being uncomfortable”. If you’re anything like me, you’re happiest in your perfectly constructed bubble of goodness. For me, just the thought of doing something NEW tends to rattle me a big. Most times I’m good to go once I talk myself down, but OMG do I have something uncomfortable happening next week.

I’m not a fan of airplanes, or traveling alone, or being away from home…alone…for very long. That’s exactly what I’m doing next week. I’m hoping on a jet plane and flying off to the west coast Β to meet up with some blogger/freelance pals for a little girls weekend/retreat. Fun right? I’m excited…don’t get me wrong, but OMG am I uncomfortable. I don’t do this, but I took a step in a new direction and bought that plane ticket months ago. I can do this.

Do any of you know what I’m talking about. That excited, but completely hesitant feeling? The feeling that you’re acting like a childish fool? You know…that feeling? Please tell me I’m not alone.

  1. Nobody likes to get out of their “comfort zone” , so we all feel a little uneasy when we have to confront change. Stomach in knots? Keep this is mind, you are talented, and you will be surrounded by creatives that share your passion, this could be a TURNING POINT in your life. Embrace it, and go out and have some fun!

  2. Oh yes. I have a bad case of homesickness even when I’m doing something new and exciting! I used to resent traveling alone, but I’ve gotten okay at it. Sometimes there is no way around it, and you’ve just got to challenge yourself! To calm my fears and anxiety of moving to AK (with my puppy in-cabin with me), I bought first class tickets…it really helped!!

  3. oh, I know what you are talking about. just last month I went on a two week trip. three countries, two continents, all alone. and boy was I freaking out about it. I also needed to be pushed big time. some nasty (but well-meant) comments did wonders. it turned out to be one of the best experiences ever. and not for the things I saw and did, but for the fact that I left my comfort zone and survived and came back a stronger person. the same things still make me uncomfortable. but I know that I can do them nevertheless, and that they are never as uncomfortable as I make them out to be…

good luck with your weekend trip. it’s going to be fun!!!

  4. I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. A few weeks ago I went to London for a few days…alone. And booked a cookery lesson…alone. I was terrified I’d done something stupid, but of course it all turned out great. I’m sure you’ll have a blast!

  5. I feel ya! I hopped on a bus a few years ago and travelled to a differenty country, strange city, by myself, with a sewing machine in tow (for a workshop). πŸ™‚ It’s a kind of great totally-scray-in-an-awesome way thing! Have a blast!!

  6. You are not alone, at all. I’ve been feeling quite like you when it comes to traveling alone, or even doing other things even in the city.. anyway my “mantra” is Live, Pray and Love. You know from the book??? Just changing Eat for Live (!!!). Live first of all because life is a GIFT and we have to honor it. Pray or have good thoughts, is the same, just be in connection with yourself or with someone or something higher if you believe so. And LOVE because it means you’re always going to do everything with your heart. Works for me… my fears go away.

    1. Thanks so much. I did read that earlier in the week, but forgot where I had read it. I’ll have to print that image and put it by my computer πŸ™‚
