christmas, here & there!

This Christmas break seems like a long time coming. The countdown was moving at a snail’s pace, but it’s finally here. We spent the majority of the season in our little loft space in St. Louis, and we are now spending the remainder of the time with family in Indiana. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been taking snapshots of all things Christmas-y that have put a smile on my face. Holiday decorations have to be the best. It brings back so many memories to see front doors decked out with bows and wreaths, houses sprinkled with lights, and, in some places, Melbourne window roller shutters adorned with festive garlands.

1. The lovely houses on Park Ave in Lafayette Square (our St. Louis Neighborhood)
2. My mom’s thrifted sled
3. A page from a book
4. My moccasin house shoes
5. Signage in store-front windows
6. The entrance of The Chocolate Bar
7. A decorated entrance gate
8. The puppy posing for his first Christmas shot in front of the stockings
9. A lawn gnome in the snow
10. The table setting with a tree and mexican salt shakers
11. My parent’s front door in Indiana
12. Christmas decorations in the kitchen
13. Clementines always remind me of the holiday season!

I love my leather boots

Over the past couple years I have collected/bought quite a few clothing and accessory items that I just love. I try not to buy things just for the hell of it and only buy things that I love from first glance. That is exactly what happen last winter when I saw similar leather boots on a photography blog and the search to track them down began. I love everything about them; their color, the way the lace up and most importantly, the way they click as I walk.

Over the next couple weeks I’m going to feature some more of my favorite pieces. All pieces are unique and close to my heart. I hope everyone enjoys the sneak peak into my wardrobe.

day 5: wrapping inspiration

Today is a good day. The boy comes home from his week long business trip and we are going to take the night easy and we will be packing to go back to Indiana for the holidays. Tomorrow is going to be a lazy day and Sunday will be 7 hours in the car with a very large puppy and a cat that would rather die than be stuck in the car for that long. Wish us luck.

Until then, I thought I’d share some of the cutest ways of wrapping gifts for the holiday season. Below is a list of some of my favorites that I’ve seen recently. Let me know if you get inspired enough to put any of these into action. I’d love to see what everyone comes up with.

1. Make gift hang tags out of recycled grocery bags. From  Ink & Post.
2. Download printable home made gift labels. From Inside A Black Apple.
3. Make a bow out of sheets from a magazine. From How About Orange.
4. Hang birds from your tree. From thatshappy.
5. Earth-friendly gift wrapping by Compai Creative. From The Gifted Blog.
6. Paper printable tags from Camilla Engman. From ReadyMade Blog.

day 4: sweet treats!

* I updated the recipe. I forgot to put the flour in the ingredients section. Sorry for any confusion.

jenny & johnny

Jenny and Johnny are on CONAN tonight. Check them out. They have a great sound and they are just a cute couple. If you like Jenny,  you need to check out some of her stuff with Rilo Kiley and the Watson Twins. ( my personal favorite is Rabbit Fur Coat )

I’m Having Fun Now is the debut full-length from Jenny and Johnny, the new project featuring veteran indie rock siren Jenny Lewis and her songwriting boyfriend, Johnathan Rice.

day three: etched glass jars

I was feeling quite crafty today and found this Martha Stewart project over Thanksgiving break. I thought it seemed relatively cheap and easy to do, so I thought I’d share. Only 3 simple steps!

Step 1: Clean and dry the glass. Using painter’s tape, mark off the area you want to etch. Attach vinyl stick-on letters and decorative tape; press hard to ensure they are attached firmly.

Step 2: Cover work surfaces (be sure to work in a well-ventilated area). Put on protective gloves and an old shirt with long sleeves. Paint an even layer of etching cream onto glass. Let stand for amount of time indicated by manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3: Rinse with warm water in a stainless steel sink. (Avoid porcelain sinks; the cream damages glazed surfaces.) Remove letters and tape.

-Thanks Martha!

If you take a stab at it, let me know how it goes. I did it and it was pretty successful. I’ll take pictures of them later.

* Ok, so after actually doing the project I have a helpful tip. My etching cream bottle said to leave it on the glass for 5 min and then was away. That didn’t really work. Leave it on for like 15-20 minutes for best results. It won’t hurt anything.

day two: tunes on tuesday

Today was definitely a zoning out kind of day. These songs made my replay list. I tend to pick about 5 songs a day and play them on replay. Today’s lucky winners are below.

“Goodnight”, Melody Gardot

“Hering Damage”, Thom Yorke

“Le Monde”, The Thievery Corporation

“Satellite Heart”, Anya Marina

“Glory Box”, Portishead

day one: home alone

Today is day 1 of 5 and the boy left before the sun came up this morning. You could say that I’m not a happy camper. This loft is suddenly colder than normal and I’m pouting. I got home from the agency today to find a puppy that was extremely excited to see me. I could see it in his eyes that we’d have a good night planned with simple pleasures. Here’s our night captured in pretty little snapshots. (warning:  I’ve fallen in love with the Instagram app on my new iPhone)

why veda?

Over the past 2+ years I’ve been sharing a blog space with one of my best friends and the adventure was amazing. As recent college grad designers, we posted about everything from interior design to successful advertising campaigns. We are working on a brand new article about how we ranked this website with the best SEO reseller program I have ever seen. Today I start a new adventure that is filled with thrifted goodies, prissy dresses, recipes loaded with chocolate, and all the lovely music/video that replays in my head.

Please check out our masterpiece at adesignmafia.com .

Over the next week, the boy will be out of town on a business trip and I’ll be sharing all the things that will occupy my mind. I’m not a fan of business trips, so staying busy 100% of the time is the goal. Enjoy!
