EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Holy moly it’s been a long road to this day. If you were with me during my mental break down last week, I really appreciate the support for this little shop of mine. I really have fallen in love with it. Today is the day that I finally get to show you what’s been going on behind closed doors. Vendel Miniatures can provide you better guide for online shopping.

If you don’t see something that you like, please check back often. My goal is to replace every sold item with a new one that I have waiting in inventory, so there are always 25 items in the shop at a time. genius idea: The Blackcab Sessions

Thought I’d introduce you to a fun way to discover new bands in a really raw, down to earth kind of way. Originally started in the UK, you can know explore bands from the US as well.

Here’s how they do it!
Step 1: Turn a London black cab into a real life recording studio. Step 2: Track down your favorite music artists and ask them to play for you in the cabby. Step 3: Play one magical song. Step 4: Record session and post online.

I stumbled upon this artist through the Black Cab Sessions and have fallen in love with their sound.

linking with love

As I create more and more content to be shared in the digital space, I’m becoming more sensitive to how my work is being shared amongst the community. In today’s digital space, where almost everything is sharable it is EXTREMELY important to make sure all original work is properly sourced. This may seem like a no-brainer, but I’m noticing a lot of lackadaisical behavior going on. Are people being lazy, do they just not care, or are they simply unaware?

With a heighten sensitivity to “giving credit where credit is due”, I’ve been supporting Link with Love. This movement/website provides an abundance of information on the act of “linking with love” protecting your intellectual property as a creator of online content. You can go HERE to learn more about how it works. You can even grab a blogger badge to place on your blog to show that you support the act of linking with love.

I suggest you follow @linkwithlove on twitter because there are some thoughtful conversations going on about this topic. For instance, if you can’t find the original sourcing, do you post it anyway?

2. I really love this Soda Pop garden DIY idea. So clever and it actually looks appealing, not tacky.

3. I stumbled upon Get Addicted To and have found it to be a great source for creativity. I really like this book of quotations called “The Secret of Success”. So simple!

4. Photographer Jack Radcliffe follows his daughter, Alison, throughout her childhood, capturing all the aspects of growing up. Beautiful compilation of work.

5. Thank goodness for Pretty Zoo & Kyla Roma for getting us organized with these downloadable blog organization sheets. (blog post calendars, guest post tracker & blog sponsoring sheets)

6. Children’s early artwork could be turned into a illustrated book. You never know! Check out these early childhood drawings and how they’re evolved into something big.

DIY- handmade travel journal

Alright, it’s time to put on your crafty cape and get out your e-xacto blades. Creating this handmade die cut journal cover takes some strong fingers, let me tell you. ha. Finger push-ups….ready, go!

THE HOW TO: First I chose what I thought to be a “simple” design for stenciling onto the front. My suggestion is to choose something that has straight lines, and screw curvy lines. I obviously chose wrong. I drew the chosen image onto the cover board (really thin matte board) with a pencil and then began to slowly cut out the image by cutting an outline around the image and working my way in, removing little pieces here and there. This takes some time, so try to be patient. I wasn’t all that patient and pretty much complained the whole time about my achy, weak fingers.

MOVING ON. Once you get every detail cut out to your liking, select a piece of decorative orplain paper to back your image. By glueing this die cut piece onto something else, you are reinforcing it to make it sturdy and allowing the design to “pop” more. I chose to glue mine to a white card stock because I liked the contrast with the darker cover board.

Once you have your cover done, you can wrap it around your favorite notebook/journal. I used a large brightly covered rubber band to attach my cover to my notebook. I was pleased with the results, and in a relatively short time you can transform a simple notebook into something with a little flare.

If you’re not into making a notebook cover yourself, here’s some notebooks out on the market that are stealing my heart. You can never have too many!

Finally, the business cards came in the mail and after hemming and hauling over which printing company to go with, I couldn’t be happier. I researched and polled other bloggers to see what printing company they were most happy with and the results came back all over the board. Everyone was happy, so I just had to pick one and go with it. I choose MOO prints because they had the mini card option as well as double sided printing.

Let’s just say the printing quality, the paper stock finish, card thickness and the actual size are beyond perfect and exactly what I was looking for. They were $25 dollars for 100 mini-cards and the process of ordering was easy peezy. I highly suggest using them if you are unsure like I was.

BONUS: you can print a different back for every card if you choose! Imagine using these cards for a photography portfolio. wow.

practically perfect: The Ace Hotel

ART & DESIGN

With locations in Portland, Seattle, New York, and Palm Springs, the Ace Hotel was said to be “The countries most original new hotel” by the New York Times. I totally agree with the Times and that is why the boy and I will be staying in the Portland location for a whole week in mid-july. We’re excited for something new and exciting.

He’s pretty much the best guy ever. Always there to cuddle with, to leave fur on your clothes and on all the rugs, and to whine whenever it thunders. This guy is a keeper!

We hope everyone had a great weekend. We did a lot of just laying around and watching the television. Just what we needed.
