Judy Kaufmann Print Giveaway / ENDED

Hi Guys! Today is a fun day because I get to introduce a GIVEAWAY with one of my fav illustrators. Judy Kaufmann has a really whimsy style that just draws me in. Tanga Tanga on it's way

I’ve been patiently waiting for the release of the free font download called Tanga Tanga created by Velckro Artwork. I’ve seen the type specimen images floating around the internet for some time now and have always been intrigued. I know this font wouldn’t be ideal for main body copy, but should could be used as a great logo font.

I’m not sure when the font will be released, but until then you should check out the entire Velckro Artwork portfolio.

Abandon Normal Devices Ad Campaign

I came across this ad campaign and felt I needed to post about it since it made me do a double take. All great makes you look twice right? The Abandon Normal Devices Film Festival campaign was designed/concepted by Marcus McCabe. The project included brand identity (my favorite) along with posters, festival guides, website, and teasers. I thought it was a very clever project with lots of personality.

See more of Marcus’ Portfolio HERE.

Curate 1K: Affordable Art

Have you guys heard of Curate 1K? It’s a really fabulous online resource that hunts down some of the best artwork under $1,000. I know $1,000 can still be a lot for a single piece of artwork, but sometimes it’s ok to splurge. I’ve also found this site to be a really useful resource when I’m looking for color & pattern inspiration.

Take a look!

INSPIRED BY TOKO SHINODA / CURATED BY AMY MOORE.

Hello and happy Thursday!  In this week’s post, I decided to feature a well-known artist, whom I greatly admire: Toko Shinoda.  Her work graces the renowned walls of institutions like the MOMA and Guggenheim.  Classically trained in calligraphy (which is something I would love to learn!), she merges lithographs with modern abstract expressionism for a result that is uniquely stunning, fresh and inspired.  It’s always staggering to me when I come across an artist with such a large and consistent body of work – it drives me to produce more of my own, and to really analyze what my aesthetic is.  Which, to me, both go hand in hand; the more work you make, the better you can narrow your focus…certain characteristics will emerge and you can run with them.  Food for thought!

Ma tunes this week: 8 Track

I follow some pretty lovely people on 8 Track and they’ve all got a wonderful ear for great tunes. Each week I usually find 1 or 2 playlist that keep me going through all the design work, and the ones above are winners this week.

Playlist 1: “Spring” created by Blogmilk
Playlist 2: “Sweet Sound 6” created by Sweet Thing Blog
Playlist 3: “Brave” created by The Flowerchild Dwelling
Playlist 4: “Harmony “created by For Me For You

INSPIRED BY EKATERINA KOROLEVA / CURATED BY AMY MOORE

I thought these watercolor pieces by Ekaterina Koroleva were the perfect embodiment of the Spring season; a light, whimsical color palette, airy feeling, opacity  (the nature of the medium). The painted color over ink pen drawings also reminds me of the way fresh blooms are restored to bare branches after winter.  Subjects with a fashion influence always seems to be well-represented in watercolor.  So happy Spring is here – enjoy!

INSPIRED BY JNC MAGAZINE / CURATED BY AMY MOORE

I thought I’d switch things up a little this week with a different type of inspiration and a fresh layout.  Fashion editorials are always pushing the envelop with creative concepts, so much in fact that they are truly works of art.  When I first got into graphic design, I really wanted to work for a fashion magazine – it would be impossible for me to not be bursting with ideas for layouts when you have material like this to work with!  This spread is from JNC magazine…I am blown away by how well the saturated color and the devoid thereof pair so well to build this ethereal story.  I had a lot of fun putting this week’s post together – hope you enjoy!
