Studio Hours: Watercolors in the Studio

Last week I took on an impromptu freelance project where I got to play around with watercolors and patterns. It was a job that I normally wouldn’t have taken on, but there was something about the process that I was drawn too, so I jumped in. Two days later the project was due and the result are piles of watercolor paper and water marks all over the place. Haha.

I’ll be able to share the project soon, but until then…here are some fun scraps.

Recent Work: Branding for Katie Newburn Photography

Hello there! Hope everyone is have an amazing Friday and that you have something planned for the weekend! Usually I share some notable links with you on Fridays, but today I wanted to share a notable photographer with you, Katie Newburn. Katie is an amazing food photographer living in San Francisco. She’s been busy growing her body of work for a few years now and thought it was time to grow her brand image as well.

Katie and I have been in contact and working together for many months now. Our goal was to look at the logo she already had and make some refinements to it. We also wanted to explore other ways a logo or icon could be used for her brand. An example of this might be an icon for an email signature, a watercolor icon to be used as a graphic element on a business card, or even a watermark to be placed on top of her photos. The end result is a cohesive brand mark that can be used across many elements.

We’re also working to organize a large body of work and showcase the images in a designed and professional printed portfolio. The process has taken longer than expected because we’re trying to source the best printer for the job, but non the less…it’s all pretty exciting.

Recent Work: Veda House Rebranding

Today I’m sharing a little sneak peek of the new Veda House rebranding. It’s taken me quite a while to develop a look I was really happy with. I wanted an overall look and feel that was a contrast of light and dark, a contrast of thick and thin, contrast of subtle and bold.

I’ve discovered through this whole process that my personality and what I’m drawn to seems to be on either end of the scale. Its either really graphic and minimalistic…or its natural and moody. I needed a way to visually show the contrast.

A full blog launch will be happening in the coming weeks (as soon as I finish the new Veda House logo) as well a fun new project I’m calling “Studio Hours”.

Stay tuned. I’m pretty excited over here 😉

Little Snippets No. 5

We’ve recently moved into a new house, which means I’ve acquired a lot of new projects to turn my house into a “home”. I’ve started by setting my workspace up, so that my days are productive. Stay tuned to see more corners of my home as I get boxes unpacked.

Little Snippets No.4

I’ve taken on the challenge of starting my own garden this season. Because I don’t have a yard, I was lucky enough to get a small plot at the neighborhood community garden. I’ve been spending my time starting some seeds indoors until the weather decides to warm up.

Studio Hours: Vintage Vignettes

Recently I was asked by the lovely Moorea Seal to do a guest post while she is away visiting family. I love her blog and her shop, so I knew I wanted to contribute. Moorea asked all her guest bloggers to share their favorite parts of their homes with her readers. I chose to share some of my favorite vintage finds.

You can read the whole post over on Moorea’s blog to find out the details about each piece.

Studio Hours: Salvaged Lights

I’ve got a real “thing” for industrial lighting and have been collecting random pieces for the last few years. Since I’m showing more pieces of my studio with you guys, you’ll be sure to see many more black lights of all different  shapes and sizes. I’m in the process of creating some really fun cage lights that I hope to share soon. Stay tuned!

Little Snippets No. 3

I’m continuing to knock out all the little projects on my “to-do” DIY list. Unfortunately I keep adding more items to the list. Oh well! Recently the fiancé decided the only way to eat amazing pickles is to make them ourselves…so that’s what we did. I also finally got around to giving these adorable little hooks (found at my favorite warehouse for $10) a nice coat of black paint. I’m still deciding whether I should hang the hooks by themselves on the wall…or attach them to a plank of wood to make a coat rack. Thoughts?

Studio Hours: Props

One of the benefits of owning a vintage curated Etsy Shop is that you get to sift through all the lovely stuff you find and decide if you want to keep anything. I’m not really putting any attention towards my shop Market203 and have shifted gears to looking for photo worthy props. Finding the smaller/unique items seems to be what I’m drawn to while out and about anyway. Needless to say, I’ve got a good collection of props to work with and they look so pretty all piled on top of each other. It’s kind of like gathering all your Halloween candy together after a night out  as a kid. (haha. ok…kind of)

Studio Hours: Spring is coming right?

Winter just keeps hanging on here in St. Louis Missouri, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that mother nature gives up on this staring contest soon. I’ve started wearing my warmer weather flats and lightweight jackets again because I’ve decided boycotting the cold is just my kind of thing.

I’ve been in my studio working on building up my portfolio with some fun summery/spring like vignettes to convince myself spring ISSSSS coming soon.
