Recent Work: Web Re-Design for Design For Mankind (minikind)

Hi Friends! Let’s chat a little bit about website redesigns shall we. As a freelancer, a website redesign/overhaul/cleanup is a pretty common inquiry that lands in my inbox. Thankfully, a re-design is one of my favorite design projects to take on, so I’m more than excited to share this particular one with you.

Design For Mankind and it’s counterpart, Design for Minikind is an online brand blog run by gal pal Erin Loechner. I see Erin as a blogging legend of sorts and have been an avid reader for the past 5-ish years. I remember stumbling upon her work in design school and watching her brand evolve to include more written essays and parents documentations has been so fun to see. A few months ago, Erin came to me with a mission to combine both her websites (Design for Manking & Design for Minikind) into one platform that would allow her brand to grow as it needs. She hired the best web design company D-Isla to design the new pages. To understand the better concept of the how the web design company D-Isla combining the two websites, visit them here. She planned to shift her blogging topics slightly and document parenting in a way that doesn’t expose her personal parenting adventures with her daughter. I totally respect that about Erin. You just know when you need a change.

For this re-design project we had to keep the overall brand language similar to where the site has been these past years. A re-design doesn’t always mean a complete overhaul but more of a facelift. We kept her logoΒ andΒ we kept a variation of the triangle motif. Other than that, we explored ways to better enhance the user experience so that everything was “dummy proof”, but still offering a few unexpected ways to explore. We added a new section to the site called “Erin’s Recommended Products” as well as more inclusive about and contact pages. I just love how everything turned out and Erin and I couldn’t have done it without the help of Brandi Bernoski, who spearheaded the development.

  1. Holy wow. This is gorgeous, Cassie! I love how simple it is. It feels much more “now” if that makes sense than her previous design. I also love how you kept the little triangles! πŸ™‚

  2. Erm… so wow!! Her site looks so clean, refreshing and welcoming. I love it!! I really like what you’ve both created. It has definitely made me want to make my little space more personalised hehe. One day.. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank so much Tara! I’ve been an avid reader of DFM for years myself and was beyond flattered to get to work with Erin again. Glad you like the redesign!

  4. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you’ve done a awesome job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very quick for me on Chrome. Outstanding Blog!

    1. Thanks so so much for stopping by and browsing through Erin’s blog. Also, really appreciate your feedback about usability and design πŸ™‚
