Brand Design Photography & Styling Clarity Consulting

Inspired by Mark Weaver / curated by Amy Moore

I would love it if everyone stood up, clapped their hands, did a twirl and ate a cupcake as they welcome Amy Moore to the Veda House blog as a regular curator of inspiration. I’ve been following Amy’s blog, Strataflora for some time now and just adore how well she can put together snippets of inspiration. Every Thursday, Amy will share with you something that’s been inspiring her in hopes to inspire you!

“Hello Veda House readers! I’m so excited Cassie has asked me to contribute to her beautiful blog.  I regularly share art, photography and design on Strataflora, and my column here on Veda House will be a mash up of those things. Hopefully I can introduce you to some new artists!  This week I chose Mark Weaver’s art to share; he puts his work together as an assemblage of different pieces, which is one of my favorite ways to communicate a story.  I think the double exposure effects with added graphics give his work a futuristic and ethereal look that I can’t help but gravitate towards.  I hope you all enjoy it as well…if you want more, he has a multitude of lovely works in his portfolio. Check them out! ”

Please give Amy a warm welcome, stop by her BLOG, and check out her deign PORTFOLIO.

One thing that I truly admire about RUE is just how bright + fun it always is. You just know that with Bri Emery behind the scenes, you’re going to get some fun spreads and color. This miniature house shoot was by far my favorite part of their January issue, that I instantly knew I needed to share it. But what really made me extra excited about this spread were the quirky parts. The text is slanted, opaque, and titled just so. Then, there’s the tiny scribble to the left, just cause … it all works!

I know I forget this all the time – but it’s okay to go outside of the box. Often we get stuck in ruts and become repetitive. This just shows you that fun looks good. So why not give it a try, huh!?

And of course, don’t forget to check out Cassie’s post over on moxee!! She’s mixing things up this week.

Okay, I know this is the most intense recreate it post to date, since there’s a whole bunch of black + red typography going on, but I couldn’t help it. I came across this amazingly awesome swiss inspired spread in Platinum Love Magazine and instantly new I had to write about it.

Back when I was in design school, one of my favorite things to learn about was the history of SWISS design. I remember staring at all the bold work and falling in love each and every time … my true love lies within typography forever and always.

So, despite the images above being intense, look at how well the type is laid out, layered just so and true to Swiss form. By using clean and modern san serif fonts, paired with bold colors ( usually white, black, and red ), you too can come up with your own little swiss inspired design! Have at it.

Wahoo! We’re back at it for another edition of “Trending Graphics” over at Design For Mankind. Erin has grown to be such a great source of inspiration for me and I’m so glad I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with her. This week’s trend is another one of my favorites. I love how the ampersand is regaining recognition as one of the most beautiful typographic forms. I’m definitely Team Ampersand!

TEA AT 2:00 // EMMADIME

It’s a new year, which means new things are happening in collaboration land. Emma and I have decided to switch up the Hand-Picked feature so that it focuses less on gift ideas for the holidays and more on certain occasions, big & small. For example, this week’s post is called TEA AT 2:00 and hopefully will inspire you to put together an afternoon of tea for yourself.

Stop by for more next Thursday! See all previous posts here!

Lonny is no doubt a wonderful online magazine and one of the most well known out there. I was paging through their most recent issue and fell in love with this spread. So often, you’ll see magazines simply cut out images for a collection, which is totally fine. However, I really do love that lonny took the time to lay out everything in the form of an image. It looks completely cohesive!!

On top of that, they added a fancy pants font, memoriam pro, to the mix. I fell in love with this one while working with it on a client project not too long ago!! And finally, the image on the bottom is from an amazing website called Things Organized Neatly. There’s a stream of photos that are laid out and fun to look at – which is definitely something you should give a look. Enjoy + don’t forget to stop by moxee for cassie’s post!

Papier Mache is the sweetest little magazine one could follow! Filled to the brim with cute kids, you know it’s a winner. When I stumbled across this spread, I instantly knew I had to write about it. The way the photos are laid out with white space surrounding kinda sorta reminds me of a wall, and how some may choose to hang frames. It’s neat how a magazine can remind you of that stuff, right??

When working with photos, don’t forget to mix things up from time to time! I definitely forget this myself, all too often. It’s so easy to get in the habit of lining things up nice and tidy, but look at how cool it can be when you DON’T do that!? Now, go have some fun. Whether it be online or some frames on a wall, be different.

Now, do head on over to moxee to see what Cassie is up to. Fun fonts alert!!
