The Raw Food Challenge

If you know anything about me, you know that I eat goldfish crackers, bananas, bread, fruit…and that’s about it. I’m the pickiest person on the planet and I can give your two-year-old a run for their money. I’m getting a little better and have recently added Ceasar salads to the list of things I like and mixing chicken with cheese is a big one.

Some sources state that Red Vein Bali Kratom was first grown and cultivated in Bali, but it is more likely that the name was inspired by the fact that Bali was used as a port for shipping this strain. Additionally, it is possible that some of the confusion stems from Borneo being partially owned by Indonesia. Either way, the results of Bali Kratom do not seem to be impacted by its name, and reviews indicate that this product gives relatively consistent results. This makes it easy to infer that most Bali Kratom products are probably sourced from the same general area due to their alkaloid makeup.

Anywho, I decided that I need to try some new things and with me, I only try new things when it’s my decision and want to do so. Constant nagging from the boyfriend is not how you get me to try something. If it smells like dirt, I’m not going to eat it no matter how many times you tell me it’s delicious.

Here’s the plan:
I specifically chose 6 foods I could use as snack foods throughout the workday. They needed to be raw foods with little to no sugar in them. This is what I chose – almonds, celery, edamame, hummus, oatmeal, and cucumbers. I also read many good reviews about Morning Complete by ActivatedYou so I decided to try it. Holy cow that’s adventurous for me! I shocked myself with the list, but I was proud of myself for putting on my first pair of big girl panties and sticking with the plan. But does you feel nausea, headache, etc after eating? Then one must know about the food intolerant. A food intolerance test is becoming very popular these days since very often people suffer from symptoms like indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, constipation, diarrhea, etc after the consumption of certain food substances. Food intolerance occurs mainly when certain food substances make the person feel unwell. The signs and symptoms of food intolerance greatly vary from one person to another. food intolerance test uk is quite necessary to find out the types of food substances that you are sensitive to. visit this website for more information.

I shopped around the grocery store with my head chopped off, tying to find those 6 things. I don’t usually spent too much time in the produce section or the nuts and seeds aisle, so I was lost big time. If felt good leaving the store with everything on my list and no sweet treats for “just in case”. $50 dollars latter I was ready to do this.

Here’s what actually happened:
I hated all of it. Every last item. I was hoping that I’d be able to report that hummus was my new favorite snack, but that’s a no-go. I’m a bit frustrated because I was determined to like these simple snack and my taste buds refuse to let it happen. I’m in need of your help.

I need your help:
I need healthy snack option suggestions to add to my second “Food Challenge”. Keep in mind things need to be simple, nothing too fancy and easy to make.  What are your favorite things to snack on? Send em over! If your food suggestion is accepted by my taste buds you’ll be getting something special. Can you tell I’m desperate?

Oh, how was everyone’s weekend?

  1. I love edamame with a bit of sea salt on it. Soooo good.
I also love an apple for a mid day snack, I keep my apples in the fridge and they last longer and taste crisper.
What about cut up strawberries? Maybe with a dash of sugar on them or a bit of milk?
I’m not a big hummus fan but tzatziki on a bit of pita is delicious!
Pecans and walnuts make good trailmix, throw a few chocolate chips and a dash of cinnamon in and your good to go!
I’m not sure what else… but good for you for trying new things! I had a friend once who had never had a strawberry before, just because she didn’t like trying anything new!

  2. I sometimes just like to snack on raw carrots. I then slice them into little ‘sticks’ and sometimes dip them in some sauce. And just like the comment above me says, a lot of people I know eat cherry tomatoes, but I personally dislike tomatoes 🙂 x

  3. Do you like any other nuts? Maybe buy some mixed nuts or trail mix and try each item in it individually to figure out what you like. Baby carrots are a good snack too, by themselves or with a dip.

  4. I feel for you, I eat the same type of foods all of the time! Some of the snacks I eat are carrot sticks with a sliver of Laughing Cow cheese… they have tons of different flavors, my favorite is the garlic and herb. MM! Also, I am a huge fan of avocados! You can mix them with anything, cottage cheese or canned tuna, or you can try the hummus over again with avocado slices…. they are phenomenal. 🙂 Fruit is my jam, so I eat ALL of it. Yogurt is really good too, with a handful of granola. YOu can smash some raw almonds and put it on your yogurt too with a splash of cinnamon!

  5. Raw red bell peppers are my favorite.. Sometimes with ranch dressing. Hm is it watermelon season yet? I don’t even slice my watermelon, I just cut off a chunk and eat it with a spoon hehe

  6. Have you ever tried cocoa roasted almonds? Very little sugar, but give you that quick little (subtle) chocolatey pick-me up

That or roasted soya nuts – those are always a go to item in my home

Lastly, have you tried banana chips? Organic, natural ones (that have no added sugar). They’re delicious!

  7. This post definitely made me laugh. Dealing with some tough stuff right now so this lightened my mood a bit. All I can think of is you chasing your brother (who’s even pickier than you I think) around your house with a box of cheerios.

Not sure if you’d like this or not, but I just tried sweet potato chips for the first time and they are excellent! I also like some of the Kashi cereals. And yes, eating healthy and organic can be quite expensive. Glad to see you are trying new things. 🙂

  8. You might be more successful if you cover the celery and cucumbers in ranch…just like your caesar salads:) I applaud your efforts! I am taking a whole course on eating and swallowing and you are not alone, A LOT of people are picky eaters and some believe it’s in your genes…can’t help that! I also know it is possible to acquire a taste for almost everything it you try it enough times. Good luck with your eating adventures, I’m proud of you!

  9. Okay, let’s talk healthy n’ simple:
-flavored rice cakes: they’ve got flavors like salt, caramel, cheddar cheese, etc.
-Fage greek yogurt with the fruit/honey in the same container; let’s you add as much/as little as you wish!
    -Organic string cheese
    -Hard-boiled eggs
-Individual pudding cups (even better: make your own puddin’ so you know what’s in there, while still getting your calcium on)
-You say you like bananers: try eating one with a tablespoon or so of peanut or almond butter for protein

Hope you try some of these delish suggestions!

    -Lauren

  10. When I started to read, i thought you will like edamame. Heat it up, and with some salt, it is my favorite. Another my recent favorite is zoi greek yogurt with honey. Very creamy and tasty~:)

  11. Oh, and my neighbour who only eat raw food loves to drink coconut water directly from a coconut. Maybe you can try that.

  12. I second the greek yogurt & honey…but coconut water is awful. I love celery with nut butter & raisins. also how about trail mix with nuts dried fruit like craisins & a few dark chocolate chips? I love snacking on grapes/apples with cheese or home-made granola.

  13. Greek yogurt with strawberries and/or bananas.
    Dried mango with no sugar.
    Raisins or craisins.
Goat cheese and pears with raw honey.

    xo.

  14. I eat junk food….a lot of it. But I have started to add some good foods to my diet, including:
    -apple slices and peanut butter
-pop chips (bbq & sour cream n’ onion)!!!
    -chocolate soy milk
    -dried apricots
    -odwalla o.j.
Ok, so the foods above aren’t THAT healthy. But they’re better than my usual cheez-its and reese’s!
Frozen GRILLED chicken breasts have saved my life for dinner! I covered one in garlic and herb marinade, wrapped it in tinfoil, next to it I added some asparagus drizzled with olive oil and sea salt on a cookie sheet and baked for 20 min at 375 degrees…. AH-MAY-ZING.

  15. I generally eat pretty simple, clean food. I’m an athlete and I need good food to feel good and to support my training. Remember, that if you’re eating sugar and processed foods your taste buds are actually used to those flavors and textures. I’ve noticed that if I eat junk food it can take weeks for other healthy foods to taste “good” again. So, you may just give it some more time. Your taste buds have to adapt.

Here are some of my favorite snacks:
Chobani (Brand of Greek Yogurt) – High in Protein and not bitter.
Whey protein (chocolate flavored) – High in Protein, mix in a bit of water
    Dried Mango, Apricots, Apples, Pineapple
Fresh ground Almond Butter & fruit or veggies
Odwalla bars (1/2 at a time with lots of water)
Granola (there are low fat, low sugar varieties and whole grains)

    Jenny

  16. Currently my favorite light snack is crispbread with cream cheese and sour cherry jam. But if i can’t be bothered to dirty a plate and a knife, then i’m happy to munch on a chocolate muesli bar or two.

But seeing that bananas were listed as one of your favorites, how about making a banana yogurt honey smoothie?
