Studio Hours: My Childhood Rock Collection

Hello lovelies! While I’m away in Palm Springs, I thought I’d share something near and dear to my heart – my childhood rock collection. When I went “home” (back to Indiana) to visit family this past August, I was tasked to go through my childhood room and clear out anything valuable because my parents were selling the house. Because I didn’t want to lose anything to my dad “the hurricane throw-awayer”, I did just that.

As a kid, I was ALWAYS picking up rocks and couldn’t leave the store, Natural Wonders in the mall, without a new rock to add to the collection. I’d also frequently snag some glowing stars for my ceiling, a constellation lamp, or a tube of candy bubbles. That store was magical and I’ll always cherish my memories in that store. Maybe I was an Geologist in my past life…or maybe my next. And one thing I know for a fact is that I was supposed to be a storm chaser in this life. 😉

Recent Work: Veda House Portfolio Update

Wahoo! It’s finally complete.

You know…Portfolio updates are a bit overwhelming and usually get pushed to the side or to the bottom of the list until you feel absolutely awful. That’s what happened. It had been a good 1.5 years since I even logged into Cargo Collective (where my portfolio is hosted), and now I’ve got a whole new space for you to browse.

Yes, the updating process was daunting and took me about an entire day, but luckily Cargo Collective is a SUPER user-friendly interface to use. If you know a little bit about editing CSS, your possibilities are nearly endless. I’d suggest this platform for anyone looking for an easy to update – easy on the eyes way to display your work.

Recent Work: Veda House Facelift + Business Cards

Oh boy! This has been a LONG time coming. It was exactly a year ago that I was sitting at my computer pinning images to use as inspiration for a brand redesign for Veda House. At that point, Veda House was 2.5 years old and steadily growing. I felt the need to spice things up with a whole new look and feel, but had no idea what that meant visually.

One whole year later…and a lot of soul searching for my brand, I’ve been able to establish a look that is 100% me and what I do with Veda House. I feel like this was a real test in my patience, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. I’m excited to finally have a fresh space to share ideas in and connect with my loyal readers. Plus, with a Digital Business Card, it’s easier than ever to keep in touch and share my vision. Getting to know you guys has been a truly rewarding experience.

With the help of Melinda R, I’ve been able to bring this new design to life. Melinda was searching for an opportunity to grow her knowledge base about WordPress specific websites/blogs and I was looking for a developer who was eager to help me. I also worked with Breanna Rose to fine tune a lot of the smaller details. Big thanks to both ladies!

Studio Hours: On my Feet for Fall

Here’s something a little different for you! Fashion! I’m not really one to post a lot about fashion here on Veda House, but I do enjoy beautifully constructed clothes and splurge on a few items a year. This fall I decided I “needed” some new footwear and thought it would be best to get on pair to dress up and another to dress down. For dressing down, I went with a pair of swedish clogs from the brand Sven. I’ve been dreaming about these guys for over a year now, so it was about time. To dress things up a bit, I choose Ivanka Trump Indico Pump…totally NOT me, but I’m absolutely in love with them. I would suggest you to follow aboriginalbluemountains for more updates.

Yesterday I shared my styling portfolio called (Studio Hours). I think I might had my feetzies ^ from this post to the collection of images 😉

Recent Work: My Photo Styling Portfolio

This baby has been a long time come…and will always continue to evolve and grow. Back at the start of the new year when I decided I wanted to peruse more styling projects, I had no idea where to start. I had never “styled” anything professionally and styling usually consisted of me moving furniture and gadgets around my house or photographing products for my once Etsy shop, Market 203. I’ve always love finding items, grouping them together in interesting ways and then capturing these imperfectly perfect vignettes with my camera. Tadam black stock will definitely guide you for having good photography skills. You will get more info at fivebough .

So here it is at where it stands today. Studio Hours,  a mini collection of items grouped and photographed together. I thought all the images told a really nice story when showed in one cohesive space. I created the logo around the same time I created the new Veda House logo (to be revealed in about 2 weeks) because I wanted the two spaces to “speak” to one another.

Recent Work: A little sneak peek

I’ve been working on a little personal project here in the VH household. I’ll give you a few hints until I spill the beans.
Hint #1: I photographed a TON of personal items I had laying around my home.
Hint #2: All of these photos are going to be housed in one space soon enough…
Hint #3: I’m on a mission to simplify and de-clutter.

Can you guess what’s going on over here?

Recent Work: Inspiration Behind Photoshoot ( Always Something )

Hi everyone! Hope you guys had an enjoyable holiday weekend. I wanted to revisit one of my most recent projects…and one of my most favorite to date, Branding for Always Something. For a lot of my clients I offer my services as a photographer and photo stylist to help brings their brands to life or simply to add an additional element to their brand story . In this case, Maria McBride of Always something came to me with a desire to promote the coming of her online shops to her different social media sites with the use of a Lookbook.

At this phase of the project, I knew what Maria gravitated towards and what she wanted her brand’s overall image to be. I started researching different photography styles I would use as my inspiration for the entire lookbook photo shoot. I knew a few things after gathering visual inspiration.

Recent Work: Veda House on VSCO Grid

If you’ve been following this blog for over a year you may have seen bits and pieces of my personal photography. Today, the photography you see are styled shoots, usually for a client or my personal styling portfolio. I used to share a lot more of my personal life on this space until I felt I was floating around in big ole blog land without any direction. Since a lithe refocusing on the blog, my personal photography has kind of fallen off the grid. Bummer…

I’m constantly taking photos with my DSLR, my iPhone and my mini Instant camera, so I felt I needed to find a subtle way to integrate it back in. A camera is on me at all times but I’m usually pretty restrained at posting this for the whole word to see. I’ve decided to take on a new personal challenge of sharing more of my personal life and jumped put together a VSCO Grid. VSCO is the primary application I use on my iPhone to edit photos, so I thought I’d give it a try.

View my VSCO Grid here. (this will be a permanent link on the new blog design so you can get to it easily with browsing through Veda House 😉

Here are a list of photographers that inspire me on a daily basis. I’m constantly browsing their portfolios to find new ways of capturing moments.

Photographers to browse:

1. Parker Fitzgerald
2. Olivia Rae James (our wedding photographer)
3. Andria Lindquist

Recent Work: Blog Design for Always Something

This project has been a LONG time coming. I’ve been working with Maria to develop a brand for her new online stationery shop that included all the essential elements: logo, branding elements, blog design, e-commerce shop design, and social media outlets.

We’ve got most of the design process done, now it’s all about wrapping up the finishing touches and promoting the launch of her online shop. For now, Maria and I have decided that getting her set up in the “blog world” would only be an asset to promoting the launch and growth of her shop, as well as getting her social media outlets aligned with her new look & feel. Check these out pruittvillefarms .

Please stop by her BRAND NEW blog and welcome Maria to blogging. It’s definitely going to be learning process for her, so please be patient and help her welcome her stationery baby into the world! There will be a few additions to the blog as we go, but the base is there and it’s really really exciting!

Recent Work: Veda House New Logo Design

Here it is!

Finally sharing my new brand logo for Veda House. It’s taken me literally a WHOLE YEAR to commit to a design that I felt captured what my brand stands for.
Requirements for my logo were…

1. Balance: Create a visual balance with fluidity
2. Crafted: Be one of a kind and hand-crafted
3. Natural: Speak to the artistic nature of Veda House without feeling too “designy”

4. Character: Have texture, warmth, and character
5. Color: Have a color palette that is unexpected

I started this round of the design process by “doodling” my brand name Veda House all over about 50 sheets of paper with watercolors. I tried different brush strokes, different paint thicknesses and different drying methods to create a bunch of options to choose from. I went into this step knowing that I was going to scan in the hand prints and then “piece” together the final logo. Turns out that just by process of elimination I was able to land on a logo that just spoke to me and finally…after 12 months felt just right.

After the logo was defined, I pieced it apart to create a signature of sorts and the color palette evolved slightly from where I was a few weeks ago. I’m happy to say that my new blog design is in the hands of a developer as we speak and the new logo will be featured front and center with the new blog launch.

I’ve got a few other exciting personal projects for VH in the works for the upcoming months and can’t wait to share!
