Recent Work: The Design Confidential Business Cards

Hope everyone enjoyed walking down memory lane with me yesterday when I shared my favorite posts to write and produce content for. It was a nice reminder for me to see how far this little blog has grown over the past year. Exciting stuff!

Today, I wanted to share another element of The Design Confidential rebranding I’ve been working on with owner, Rayan Turner. The complete branding overhaul started with creating a few moodboards to nail down our direction. Next we moved onto logo creation and a mini branded photoshoot. After that, we designed (and eventually developed) a brand new website. Lastly, Rayan and I worked together to concept and create a few additional branded pieces like new business cards (that can be created by Metal Business Kards) and  a media kit. The finishing touches are being added to the complex web redesign…but I’ll be sharing that soon!

If you are interested in completely overhauling your creative brand baby, send me an email and let’s chat. My favorite projects to work on are projects like this…with like minded creatives who have a passion for their craft and desire to share their work with others. It’s such a fun community!

Recent Work: Veda House Postcards

Hi everyone! I have a fun thing to share with you today. A few months back, when Artifact Uprising launched their postcard packs, I jumped in. These beauties are made are really high quality paper and come ready for you to write a little note (add a stamp) and send off. You have the option to upload up to 20 different photos through a really simple seamless online form. Definitely give it a try!

I’ll be using my branded postcards to send little notes off to new clients or when I want to connect with past clients. I hope that receiving something unique in the mail will put a smile of the face of anyone who picks them up.

Have you guys used Artifact Uprising before? Recommend any other products by them?

Studio Hours: Season For Knitting

Hi guys! Stopping by to share a little knitting inspiration. Knitting is a relatively new things to me (only been doing it for 2 years now), but I’m addicted.

I don’t have any super skills, but I do love plopping myself in front of the TV and mindlessly crafting a cozy scarf. Maybe I’ll get a little more adventurous this winter.

Here are a few “must see” knitting things –>

First, my Friend Emma Robertson (Emmadime) has just realized her book on Knitting that is available on Amazon. The book is beautiful and all photography was shot by Max Wagner. Congrats Emma!

Second, if you are a new knitter just starting out, you must watch the  Wool & The Gang how-to videos. Incredibly helpful and easy to follow –> http://www.woolandthegang.com/video-tutorials
I also found the book Stitch n’ Bitch to be really informative.

Third-ly, If you are wanting some inspiration as to what to make, you can check out my “knitted” Pinterst board. Are these massive yarns just gorgeous!

Studio Hours: Thanksgiving Table for Two

I hope everyone had a beyond fabulous Thanksgiving (here in the states). This year was a little bit different for my Mister and I. We decided to minimize the amount of long distance travel this season and traded long car rides for super lazy days at home. Our Thanksgiving vacation started Wednesday when the mister came home from work early. On Thursday we cooked and baked our little hearts out using food choppers to cut the veggies – trying to make family recipes for the first time (and in smaller portions) If you need an easier way to cut your food, this was the source for this chopper reccomendation you can find online. On Friday we had a Christmas explosion! We bought some fresh garland from a local tree farm, set up our Christmas tree and watched a bunch of movies. The whole break was the definition of perfection. We started new traditions and had a chance to just breath!

This was our table setting. The beautiful dining room chairs were graciously gifted by the folks over at Euro Style Lighting. I think the contrast of white black and lightly stained wooden legs work just perfectly in our dining room.

Recent Work: Wedding Save the Dates

The countdown timer says 170 days left….170 more days until I get married next May. Wholy Guacamole!!! These last 6 months of planning have definitely been a whirlwind of exciting milestones (like finding my wedding dress) and daunting tasks (like designing our wedding invites).

Now that the “Save The Dates” are out to family and friends, I thought it would fun to share with you the final pieces. I was SUPER lucky to get the opportunity to work with the very talented Maggie of Type & Title. I illustrated the florals and overall design and Maggie helped me hand letter some key pieces. The words “Save The Date” and our beautiful return address stamp were both created by Maggie and I couldn’t be more pleased.

If you need an incredibly talented (and beyond sweet) hand lettering artist to work with, please contact Maggie 🙂 You can contact her on her portfolio site in the link below. If you’re interested in the construction of the envelopes, please visit this post.

Studio Hours: Our Wedding Place Settings

Wedding update! Projects are being checked off the list! I’m sitting here in a Kansas city coffee shop on a business trip, but wanted to stop by and share our wedding place settings.

Aside from the invitation, figuring out what the table settings are going to look like at our wedding is a whole other debacle. Like most things I do, I’ve taken on hand selecting (thrifting) each and every items that will go on the tables. I know crazy. I do however love the attachment you get to items you’ve hunted down and I can only image that aspect will make our wedding day that much more magical. If you’re planning to tie the knot soon with your special someone as well, companies such as Designed Dream is Toronto’s best destination wedding planners, offering couples luxury, all-inclusive wedding packages in Mexico. We create a one-of-a-kind fantasy wedding using vendors from across the world.

Basically the settings are simple. One white plate, one antique plate, one fork, one knife, I amber colored glass, one napkin, and one sprig of rosemary.

You can keep reading for details about each item.

1. Antique plates – thrifted at a local St. Louis antique mall. Slowly gathering enough for 55 guests.

2. Amber colored glasses – another slow process of collecting enough for 55

3. Hand made linen napkins – with frayed edges for a little rustic charm

4. Fresh cut rosemary – our receptionvenue has lots of potted rosemary, so we are just continuing the hand picked theme to the tables

5. Wooden candle sticks – still need to find skinny candles, from the best scented candles you can find online for this.

6. Brass Candle Stands – should I spray paint these a hammered silver?

7. Door knob photo stands – See DIY post

8. Lace Table runners – for “family table” only

9. Blue Glass Water Jugs – recycled white wine bottles

10. Massive driftwood centerpieces (not pictured ) – like these

11. Overhead lighting (not pictured ) – See DIY post

Recent Work: Anatomy of a Guest Room

Ever since moving into our townhouse last spring, I’ve been attacking one room at a time and transforming it into a clean/inviting space. Megan Gilger described my vision of this room best in her blog post yesterday title “modern americana”.  I wanted to keep this space super simple with attention to the finer details.

We checked the whole house for better improvements like for example, I use air release valves to avoid pipe materials collapse under negative pressure, and keep my house safe for my family or check for moisture in the walls that can lead to molds.Mositure Control or kelderdichting is very important for the longitivity of walls and also to prevent disease in the house. In many cases the reason why you have mold at home is because of non attended leaking pipe, being this said, you can hire this plumber San Diego to verify that everything is working fine. Plumbing jobs can take up a lot of time. A licensed plumber can come to your house just one time, and leave you with plumbing that works as good as new. By hiring a professional plumber, you’re also freeing up that time for yourself. For additional plumbing guidance contact Sharp Plumbing & Heating.

EACH piece in this room has a story. Anatomy of each piece below.

2. Farm Ladder:   Thrifted from my favorite antique store here in St. Louis – Rothchild’s

Veda News: Lazy weekends

Last Friday I debated and debated whether of not I wanted to blog. Ultimately, my mind was already on the weekend and I didn’t have a creative thread in me. I choose to take the weekend to continue working on a few personal projects. I feel like my house is in a state of half started projects, most of which are related to wedding stuff or my guest room makeover (coming to the blog soon!)

I’m not complaining though. I feel like lots of exciting things are happening right now, so the sense of unfinished is kind of fun….so many possibilities in the works.

Anyway…I’m rambling ( I do that a lot). Hope your weeks starts off on the right foot and here are a few images of randomness that is happening in my home these days.

Recent Work: Branding for The Design Confidential

Hello fellow VH readers. I’m excited to share with you a new branding project that I recently wrapped up. I was contacted by Rayan of The Design Confidential ( A DIY/ furniture brand)and she was in need of a complete brand overhaul…the whole deal – new logo, new website, style guide, business cards, media kit. So we’re slowly chipping away at all the details of her new brand image.

The project started with gathering a lot of inspiration images, both her and I. As a result we selected our most favorite influences and turned them into a guiding moodboard.  From there we nailed down fonts, color palettes and patterns that we wanted to incorporate. Next was the first and second rounds of logo designs, ultimately landing on a primary logo and secondary logo design. We also established ways in which the logo would be incorporated into imagery and how it might be used on her website.

We’re currently knee deep in The Design Confidential website redesign. The website uses unique user profile technology where people can upload design plans and photos of their finished projects. The site is also a hub for DIY/home inspiration as well as a forum to talk with like minded makers. I’m pretty excited to see the launch. Designs are off to a developer in a matter of day!

If you are interested in working with me, please stop by my about page  and portfolio to see if we’d make a good fit. If so, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Studio Hours: Wedding Lighting / Part 1

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to have my parents come and visit for a quick weekend trip. The drive is about 7 hours, so weekend trips can be tough. We had an amazing time just chatting away about wedding plans and eating tasty food.

Our goal for the weekend was to tackle some of our wedding DIYs we had on the list, the main one being the chandaliers that are going to hang above each farmhouse table. We were inspired by THIS image and took quite a bit of time sourcing the right materials to make them fit our aesthetic. We also put a lot of work into figuring out a better way to incorporate the mason jars with the wood beam…ultimately cutting holes and inserting the mason jar lids into the hole for a more seamless finish.

Materials we sourced:

1. Reclaimed wood panels – each was white washed and aged to perfection

2. Vintage Mason Jars –  ( similar to these )

3. Open Top Lids – to replace old lids ( buy here )

4. Vintage Utility Rope ( similar to this )

5. Hole Saw Drill Bit  + Drill ( buy here )
